History of Iranian Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases
Iranian Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (ISPID) was established in 2003 to address the need of collaboration between pediatric infectious diseases subspecialists in IRAN to manage the infectious disease challenges in children.
The first pioneer for implementing this initiative was the late professor Dr. Seyed Ahmad Siyadati and with the support of other pediatric infectious diseases subspecialists.
All pediatric infectious diseases subspecialists in our country are registered in ISPID. This society arranges regular decision- making meetings regarding infection control in children and epidemic management, antibiotic prescription policies and providing guidelines in order to solve the specific problems in children related to infectious diseases.
Iranian Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases has a strong educational and scientific history. It has held 17 congresses, 28 educational programs and 86 monthly conferences. The society provides a great environment for knowledge exchange and communication between pediatric infectious diseases subspecialists in Iran. Many challenges and questions around epidemics and infectious diseases in children have been addressed in our society. During the pandemic the Iranian Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (ISPID) worked closely with the Pediatric Infections Research Centre (PIRC) in Iran to develop a standard policy and guideline for diagnosis and treatment of COVID19 in children. Due to our ongoing activities, we are honored to become a member of the World Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and this membership may open up great opportunities for our colleagues to participate in WSPID congresses and activities in future. We are now in an excellent position to share our findings, knowledge and experience with other countries. We have international scientific activities with Turkey, India, Philippine and Pakistan to share our experience, and knowledge with other countries.
The activities of Iranian Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (ISPID) include:
1- Organizing annual conferences, which are attended by about 400 participants every year, and since 2019 due to the pandemic, these conferences have been held in the form of webinars.
2- Organizing monthly meetings at the Children’s Medical Center Hospital (currently, virtual).
3- Organizing the Accredited Continuing Education sessions twice a year.
4- Publications: includes quarterly and bi-quarterly newsletters, a special magazine, the first issue of which was published under the title of Corona Virus in Children.
5- The international activities of the association: recently the international relation committee officially and actively started communication with Asian Pediatric Infectious Associations, Turkish Pediatric Infectious Associations.
6- Prepare guidelines and instruction in Epidemics and plan for national policies regarding antibiotics prescription, Hospital Infection Control and other challenges

The Iranian Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases was founded in 2004 by the distinguished professor, Dr. Seyed Ahmad Siadati and a team of professors of pediatric infectious diseases in Iran.
